Being willing to have conversations that can help a young person make better choices, build confidence, and see possibilities for their future is what mentorship is about.

This summer, Mentor On The Move 4 Life partnered with The Floating Hospital for a five-day Camp Rise Up experience at Camp Ramapo in Rhinebeck, New York.

Camp Rise Up gives young people an opportunity to step away from the challenges they may face in their everyday lives and spend time learning, exploring, building relationships, and developing important life skills. The program utilizes indoor and outdoor learning with activities and experiences designed to build confidence, resilience, leadership, and personal growth.

MOTM4L was brought in to give young people an opportunity to talk openly about violence, the situations that can lead to it, and how they can respond when faced with difficult or potentially dangerous situations.

These conversations are important because young people need more than warnings about what not to do. They need trusted adults who will listen to them, answer their questions, share real experiences, and give them practical tools they can use in their everyday lives.

MOTM4L believes that prevention starts with connection. When young people have positive relationships with mentors and adults they can trust, they have more opportunities to learn, ask questions, and make informed decisions.

Tyrone Gardner and Mentor Jermaine White represented MOTM4L throughout the week.

Both brought their experience and commitment to working with young people into the camp. Their role was to connect with the campers and create an environment where young people could speak, listen, learn, and reflect.

That is at the heart of MOTM4L's approach to mentorship.

We know that every young person has a different story. Meeting them where they are, listening to them, and giving them tools to move forward can make a meaningful difference.

The Best Advice Award

One of the most special moments of the week came when Tyrone Gardner received The Best Advice Award from the campers.

The award showed that the conversations Tyrone shared with the young people were not simply lessons they heard and forgot. His words connected with them.

Sometimes the most important thing a mentor can give a young person is advice that stays with them after the conversation is over.

That is what mentorship is about.

A Partnership Built Around Young People

MOTM4L is grateful to The Floating Hospital for inviting us to be part of Camp Rise Up.

We especially want to recognize Director Meghan, Ms. Davis, and the entire Floating Hospital team for their work and commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young people.

The Floating Hospital's Camp Rise Up program focuses on helping youth develop confidence, resilience, life skills, and leadership while giving them the opportunity to experience the outdoors and build positive relationships.

Partnerships like this allow organizations to bring different experiences and strengths together for the benefit of young people.

MOTM4L was proud to bring our experience in mentorship and violence prevention to the camp. The Floating Hospital created the space for learning, growth, and connection.

Together, we helped make room for important conversations.

Keep Rising

The five days at Camp Rise Up were a reminder that young people need opportunities to learn, but they also need opportunities to be heard.

They need adults who will tell them the truth, encourage them, challenge them, and remind them that their choices today can shape their future.

MOTM4L is proud to continue doing that work.
